UPGRADE YOUR WORK WARDROBE WITH THESE 5 NEW TRENDS

- - No comments
It’s a whole new year, and we think you deserve a whole new workwear wardrobe. Update your office look with our favourite five new workwear trends for 2019.
Show that you mean business in 2019 by adding these five trends to your office look. Bonus – they'll work just as well after 5pm, too
They say you should dress for the job you want, not the one you have. With the new year upon us, it’s time to realign with your career goals and do exactly that. Whether you’re gunning for a promotion or starting your own business, here are the top five trends to incorporate into your workwear wardrobe right now.

ANIMAL PRINT

Whether it’s leopard, cheetah, zebra or giraffe, animal print is back for another season. This time around, we’re taking this evening standard into the daytime for a fierce approach to workwear attire. Confidence is key when wearing animal print, especially if your outfit is composed of a lot of it (though a little goes a long way, too). Pair a printed dress with minimalist accessories to prevent the ensemble looking too busy.

TARTAN

If animal print doesn’t do it for you but you’d still like to incorporate print into your wardrobe, look to pieces in a fine tartan or check. Pair a tartan skirt with a delicate, solid-colour pussy-bow blouse for a subtle yet impactful look, or dare to be bold in a tartan-print dress. Pair it with a vibrantly coloured accessory (like a bag) to look extra chic.

STRIPES

Striped pieces are staples in any workwear wardrobe. This season, however, black and white stripes in varying degrees of thickness are the key to a successful outfit. Look to vertical or diagonal stripes to flatter and elongate your form, and combine the two for a more interesting approach to the trend. Wear yours with a bright pair of shoes or a handbag in a solid colour for a touch of personality.

JUMPSUITS

Jumpsuits have become a standard piece on the catwalk in almost every designer’s collection, and we’re here for it. They’re great as workwear because you need only jump into one item in the morning and you’re ready to go – especially nifty when you’re running late for work. Wear yours on its own or layer it over a blouse for dressier occasions. This is one item you can really get creative with.

SUIT UP

Nothing says ‘I’m ready for business’ more than a two-piece suit. However, this year, ditch that stiff and stuffy structured suit and opt for lighter, floaty fabrics in soft pinks or neutrals, like beige or white (it is summer, after all). Go full glam by wearing it with a feminine cami and all the necessary accessories.

BEST SWIMWEAR FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

- - No comments
It’s the season to shop for new bathing suits. Here’s a guide to help you find the right fit for your body shape.
With so many options out there, shopping for swimwear can be quite a stressful and daunting experience. Here, we focus on swimwear that’s made to show off your beautiful frame, no matter the shape.

SLIM & ATHLETIC

With your slender frame you can basically pull off any swimsuit. But, if you want to create the illusion of curves, look for a swimsuit with bright and bold patterns, or ruffles to add volume. Necklines that show feminine features like shoulders and a bit of cleavage will also soften your look.

HOURGLASS

If you’ve been blessed with a slender waist and wider hips, à la Marilyn Monroe, take advantage of your curves and go for a bikini set with a crop top and a high-waist brief. The pairing will cut at just the right spot, accentuating your narrow waist. A full-piece swimsuit with a band in the middle will achieve the same desired effect if you don’t want to show your tummy.

PEAR SHAPED

For those with more of a pear shape, an itsy-bitsy bikini is the way to go. Go for high waisted bottoms for the illusion of a lift, and a small chest looks great in a triangle bikini or tube top.

Looking for that perfect bikini? Now's the perfect time to go shopping because you get 30% off swimwear at Edgars until 31 December 2018!

Why Mickey Mouse stills rocks

- - No comments

Mickey Mouse celebrates his 90th birthday this year, and Edgars is celebrating in collaboration with Disney and you.
He's the most famous mouse in the world and probably the oldest too - Mickey Mouse turns 90 this year. Join in on the fun as Edgars celebrates his big day!

What's the deal?

Mickey’s debut appearance was in Steamboat Willie on 18 November 1928, and he’s been on a roll ever since. While his birthday has come and gone, the world's favourite mouse will continue marking the milestone with a series of worldwide celebrations, including a primetime television special and the World’s Biggest Mickey Mouse Party hosted at Disney Parks around the world!

Where's the party?

You can head to Edgars to join the fun! In a collaborative sponsorship between Edgars and Disney, we're hosting a range of exciting events, including themed mall exhibitions at venues around South Africa. Visit Canal Walk between 16 and 25 November to get in on the action.

Mickey Tee 149.95

Mickey-adorned products will be available for women, men and kids, from comfy pj's to fun graphic tees, along with exciting in-store instalments for a dazzling customer experience. Come and join the fun as Edgars brings this uplifting and heart-warming global event home.

 Mickey’s retail hall of fame

Mickey’s first appearance may have been on film, but it wasn’t long before he made his way into stores. In late 1929, Walt Disney was walking through a hotel reception in New York City, when a man approached him asking if he could put Mickey Mouse on a children’s pencil tablet he was making. Needing the $300 the man offered, Walt agreed. That tablet was the beginning of Disney licensing. It didn’t take long for Roy, Walt’s brother and business partner, to pick up on Mickey's commercial potential and get to work. A young seamstress, Charlotte Clark, made the first Mickey plush dolls in 1930, and Ingersoll unveiled the cult classic wristwatch in which Mickey’s arms tell the time in 1933. Disney watches have been produced ever since.

Mickey and fashion are a match made in heaven

Disney’s design collaborations are all about creating beautiful pieces celebrating characters that tell beloved stories. Mickey has featured in a variety of high-end designer collaborations. In August 2011, haute couture jewellers Chopard launched a Mickey Mouse-inspired collection that included watches, necklaces, rings and bracelets. Fashion designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Anya Hindmarch and Marc Jacobs have collaborated with Disney on Mickey Mouse inspired clothing and accessory ranges. Mickey Mouse has also had a big influence in the design world, where designers such as Terence Conran and Ingo Maurer have featured him in their work. The mouse certainly gets around.

Big-bag girl in a little-bag world

- - No comments
Fashion blogger Nkgabiseng Motau discusses how her love for big bags is struggling in a world where mini bags are trending.
When it comes to handbags, bigger has always been better for fashion blogger Nkgabiseng Motau. But as she discovers, the allure of the compact bag trend is just too tempting to resist!
There’s a stylish new trend in town and, to paraphrase Queen Bey, I don’t know whether it’s a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare. The cutest little bags in all sorts of whimsical designs that make any outfit look darling have popped up everywhere. Who wouldn’t want that in their life, right? Well, me, I guess. The trouble, you see, is that I like to haul it all, tote the boat, lug the rug. What I’m saying is that I like big bags and I cannot lie.

I’m the sort of person who takes everything everywhere, just in case. Even if I have reinforcements at the office or in my car. To me, it’s completely rational to plan for a sudden invitation to the town’s most glam event. Not that such a thing has ever happened to me, but I just can’t bear to be unprepared should the possibility arise. What if there is an emergency party at the office? What if Beyoncé visits a shopping centre near me and I’m in frumpy flats? I need a back-up plan for even the most far-fetched scenarios. I kind of see myself as a transformer – always ready to take it up a notch.
Christian Dior handbag

Perfectly practical

Of course, there are the more practical reasons for my big-bag penchant. For example, I like a bag that is spacious enough for my laptop, especially on days when I have meetings all over town. I don’t want to bore you with the details but the list of practical must-haves includes wet wipes, hand cream, a few lipstick options, sunglasses, perfume and sometimes even the book I’m reading. It’s not totally insane. I just like to be prepared.

This brings me to the problem with which I am confronted. And this is how it all goes down in my head: I need all the stuff I lug around, or at least I think I do. I can just hear Erykah Badu judging me with the words from ‘Bag Lady’, one of her sweet classics: ‘Bag lady, you gon’ hurt your back, carrying all them bags like that’. Well Erykah, I have a lot of stuff, okay!

Alright, I know it’s not okay. Especially not if I want to get my hands on one of those fabulously compact bags. I love them wholeheartedly but the truth, I fear, is that they’re just not the right match for me.

Mini-bag trend

Three-item girl

When I first saw one, I fell in love so hard that even I toyed with the fantasy of becoming a three-item girl. You know? The only three items in her bag are lipstick, cellphone and bank card… maybe a tiny perfume or hand cream, if it’s going to be a long day. The thought made me shudder. I literally had a fashion meltdown. I began to have visions of myself stranded and without a pair of high heels in a queue for an important event with the bouncer giving me the eye of disapproval. Or in a meeting scratching inside my tiny bag for a notepad and pen. Or anywhere needing anything and not having it because I had to pack lightly. The thought sent chills down my spine.

It was in this moment that I realised: wait a minute, I’m a lugger! Quick diversion: A lugger is what I call a handbag hoarder or someone who lugs around things they don’t need. I’ve been calling one of my relatives a lugger for years. Back to my moment of clarity: I realised right then and there that the tiny-bag trend might just be a divine intervention. A sign sent to save me from myself. Maybe Erykah is right. I am gon’ hurt my back and I do need to pack lightly. And so, tiny bag, I say to you, challenge accepted.
cross-over body bag

Just a little magic

After much pondering, I came to the following liberating resolution. When it comes down to it, a bag should match the occasion as much as it does the outfit. What was I doing taking a laptop to a horse-racing event, anyway?

Perhaps the time had come for me to redefine what I saw as everyday essentials. It was almost like a trade-off with myself. If I want a pretty little bag to freshen up my look, then I’ll have to let go of a few things to freshen up my life.
Tote bags

Time to let go

There’s a little magic to these tiny beauties: they offer a chance to let go of things like that old lipstick that’s been sitting at the bottom of your tote for a year, a chance to be nimble and light. Nimble and light? That sounds like a version of me I could get behind – so in control, yet so easy-going. I love it. I’m changing my Twitter bio as we speak to include the above adjectives. What’s even more magical is that I have a feeling the literal letting go might come with some figurative letting go too, which is always a breath of fresh air.

Whether you’re a big-tote fan or a mini-bag collector, Edgars has the one for you.

Sho Madjozi's style is more than just a fashion statement

- - No comments

Sho Madjozi's bold style and strong roots in her heritage make her one of the most exciting entertainment artists in Africa.
The powerhouse musician and front woman of the new Edgars TV commercial tells us why her style and identity are intertwined.

With her colourful pom-poms, braided hair and tasselled skirts, it’s easy to consider musician and poet Sho Madjozi’s style to be eccentric. But there is consideration and tradition at the root of every accessory and garment. Born Maya Wegerif, this Limpopo-bred muso’s look is a tapestry of her culture and background, and she is unapologetic about it. Let’s decode the key pieces:

She Madjozi styleThe bright colours

Colour and Sho Madjozi belong in the same WhatsApp group. You’ll never catch the muso in anything dull and it’s an inter-generational phenomenon; 'I grew up thinking that my affinity to bright pink and yellow was my choice, but when I look at old photographs of my mom and aunts, I see those colours dominating their clothing too,' she says.

She Madjozi pompom

The pompoms

These little accessories dot the shibelane and make great earrings and decorative trinkets to handbags and shoes. 'I make my outfits in collaboration with my aunts, grandma and tailors, and I was really inspired when I saw other Africans wearing their traditional attire daily. For instance, Senegalese people dress like Senegalese people all the time, and not only on Heritage Day. I wanted to find a way to be a whole version of myself all the time,' says the star, whose outfit is never complete without a pompom or two.
She Madjozi hair braids and cornrows

The braids

Cornrows and braids making intricate patterns across the head have also become synonymous with the star, who avoids wearing wigs and weaves. These braided styles have been part of many African cultures for centuries and are a permanent part of her style arsenal; 'I reject the idea that I have to take off my tradition to be palatable,' she says.
She Madjozi tasselled skirts

The tasseled skirt (shibelane)

Worn by Xitsonga women at traditional gatherings in performance of the Xibelani dance, this multi-coloured skirt is designed to make the wearer’s waist look bigger, thereby emphasizing the shaking movement of the dance. 'When I was young, that is how women and girls dressed for special occasions; it became what I understand to be beautiful,' says the muso. 'I have been criticised by some who say I wear my shibelane too short. But I’ve stuck to my style; this is my version that I have modernised to maintain practical wearability and relevance.'

BEST SWIMWEAR FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

HOW TO GO FROM THE GYM TO BRUNCH IN UNDER 5 MINUTES

- - No comments

The athleisure (activewear as streetwear) trend is not only chic, but also practical and super comfortable to wear. It’s all about looking fresh and streamlined.
By now you've likely seen the viral video about wearing activewear everywhere but the gym. If you haven’t seen it and are keen on a good chuckle, check it out here. Jokes aside, activewear as streetwear (or athleisure, as the trend is so aptly called) has become a legitimate style of dressing. Just take a look at some of the most recent runway collections and you’ll see why. The trend is not only chic, it's also practical and super comfortable to wear.

Sporting Chic

Just to be clear, athleisure is not about wearing the baggy contents of your gym bag on a date or at brunch with your girlfriends. This trend is all about looking fresh and streamlined – think sporty vest and tights with killer heels.

RE-MIX

The quickest way to change up your look is with jewellery. From earrings and necklaces to bangles and rings, statement pieces add a touch of sparkle that elevates an otherwise basic outfit. The bigger the jewels, the bigger the impact, so go for bold items, rather than fine, dainty jewellery.
1. Free 2BU tassel necklace 99.95  2. Pro-Action loungewear pants XXX 3. Pro-Action sports bra XXX 4. Pro-Action hooded vest XXX 5. Kelso platform sandals XXX

IN THE NUDE
